What this article helps you do
Know which exact rules produced each Backtest and which version was tagged to recorded trades.
Before you start
- A saved Strategy Builder definition.
Follow these steps
- 1
Name the initial version and document its purpose.
- 2
Create a new version when entry, confirmation, risk, exit, session, fee, or slippage rules change.
- 3
Do not overwrite the version attached to an existing Backtest.
- 4
Add a concise change note.
- 5
Compare versions using the same dataset before changing multiple variables at once.
- 6
Archive obsolete versions without deleting their historical results.
What you should see
Each Backtest and tagged trade points to an immutable strategy version and its assumptions.
Common mistakes
- Editing an old version in place.
- Changing several rules without a change note.
- Comparing versions on different datasets without acknowledging the difference.
